2018 Turkey Demographic and Health Survey

General Information

The primary objective of the 2018 TDHS is to provide up-to-date and reliable data on fertility levels and trends in fertility, maternal and child health, family planning and early childhood development. The results of the 2018 TDHS sample is to allow for analysis on urban/rural, 5 regions and some of the survey topics at the level of the 12 geographical regions (NUTS 1) It is possible to obtain information from 2018 TDHS that cannot be provided from other sources, particularly Sustainable Development Indicators. Also, 2018 TDHS provides detailed analyses on the information obtained from the registration system. A separate sampling design was also conducted for Syrian migrants residing in Turkey in order to obtain information on the same issues under the 2018 TDHS. With the Syrian migrant sample, for the first time, demographic and health indicators for Syrian migrants were calculated at the household level in Turkey.

2018 TDHS has been conducted by the Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies. The beneficiary institution under this project is T.R. Presidency of Turkey Directorate of Strategy and Budget. The financial support of the 2018 TDHS has been provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) within the scope of the 1007 Support Programme for Research and Development Projects of Public Institutions. 2018 TDHS was carried out in collaboration also with the President of Strategy and Budget Department, Ministry of Health, Turkey Statistical Institute,   Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Migration Administration and UNICEF Turkey.
